CONTENTS
Within Nijo-jo Castle lie the memories of the Kan’ei Imperial Visit.
The sakura trees, planted long ago and now part of the castle’s soul, awaken those memories as they burst into bloom.
Tonight, together with the blossoming sakura, the echoes of the imperial visit rise once more.
Gold leaf shimmering in the light, shadows shaped by carved details, and the graceful lines of the roof. Subtle illumination reveals the Kara-mon Gate’s inherent beauty, allowing its presence to quietly stand out against the night.
Through drifting sakura petals, memories of the Kan’ei Imperial Visit and its elegant festivities quietly surface. As those memories unfold, thoughts are carried forward— to the future, 100 years from now, and 400 years beyond. Special nighttime access to the Ninomaru-goten Palace will be offered.
Floral arts, incense, tea, Noh theatre, and classical poetry— the cultural expressions that blossomed through the Kan’ei Imperial Visit appear as small, window-like lights scattered across the wall. Before you realize it, you find yourself immersed in the quiet presence of culture from another time.
On a single sakura tree, light moves gently along the trunk and branches, while the surrounding blossoms are wrapped in a soft blush-pink glow. In the stillness of the night, the presence of a spring yet to come slowly begins to rise from beneath your feet.
Light cast upon the surface of the moat captures its subtle ripples and reflects them onto the Yagura-mon Gate. As water and projected imagery respond to one another, the greenery of the gardens and memories of nature clearly merge with sakura, gently enveloping you in the flow of time that has long lived within this castle.
Soft blush-pink light traces the trunks and branches of the sakura, while petals quietly dance across the path beneath your feet. With each step forward, the night garden itself becomes filled with sakura, and you find yourself walking softly within their presence.
A dedicated space for the immersive theatre experience “Shiro Geki.” Surrounded by imagery and sound, you are gently guided into the era of the Kan’ei Imperial Visit.
